Meet Lauren Powell, Psy.D
Lauren Powell is helping others live with purpose and clarity.
Hi, I’m Dr. Lauren Powell. I was born in Florida, the sunshine state, and attended the University of Central Florida (UCF). In my junior year of college my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer and given a grave prognosis. My family did not want me to postpone my graduation, so I continued living in Florida and drove to Georgia to visit my mother and family on a weekly basis. Many of my family members were hyperfocused on my mother’s inevitable death and in a constant state of stress. Although I had minimal knowledge of mental health at the time, I knew we needed a change. I ended up taking the roles of both comic relief as well as the no nonsense, get things done girl. After the initial shock, my mother ended up having many good times before she passed 15 months later. I learned an incredible amount about anxiety, depression, death, and dying during this period. Due to my great intrigue during this time, after graduating Magna Cum Laude from UCF, I decided to pursue my doctorate degree in psychology.
My training spans all ages and a diverse and beautiful blend of races, ethnicities, and cultures. I have worked in schools, correctional facilities, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, and private practices.
In my opinion, my education and training do not independently qualify me to be your therapist. More importantly, you should know that I am no different than you. I am human, I am a wife and mother of two, and I am dedicated to walking alongside my clients in their journey to reach their own goals and meet their own needs. My clients become an extension of my family and, as you may know, us women go to some pretty extreme lengths to care for their family.
I want to connect with you and understand you and your own individual needs. I can work with you intensively to get to the root of any problem you may be having and unlock new insights. These insights oftentimes lead to a sense of calm and well-being that you never knew you could have! Are you a parent who is overwhelmed with life stressors? Do you have trouble managing your day to day life? Do you think you may have undiagnosed ADHD and want to know how to get a hold of your life again? Are you tired of just “going through the motions” of daily life and want to really start living?
I can help!
